FACT: Not necessarily. For example, peanuts grow underground, are from the legume family, and are not botanically related to tree nuts. Coconut is a seed of a fruit while nutmeg is obtained from the seeds of a tropical tree. Plus, some people with a tree nut allergy may be allergic to more than one type of nut, while others may only be allergic to one type. Consult your allergist if unsure which foods with “nut” in the name can be safely eaten.
