Summer of TAG: Racecar driver Alex Tagliani raises food allergy awareness across Canada

June 25, 2016

alex carFood Allergy Canada is proud to once again be a part of the Summer of TAG campaign, featuring celebrated racecar driver Alex Tagliani, a passionate advocate for food allergy awareness. Alex has had food allergies his whole life, and he never leaves home without his EpiPen®. An avid spokesman, Alex has teamed up with Food Allergy Canada, with the support of Pfizer Canada (Canadian distributor of EpiPen®), to educate about food allergies through community events, racing and a very special cross-Canada food drive for families in need.

The Food Drive Challenge
Many low-income families rely on food banks at the end of the month and in other times of need. But some families can’t always find the foods they need at food banks (which rely on donations), if they have food allergies. Team Alex came up with the idea of a food drive to help our food banks provide more allergy-friendly products to these families.

Throughout the summer at various races, the Allergy-friendly Food Drive Challenge will be collecting allergy-friendly foods and donating them to local shelters and food banks. Find out about participating races near you. There is also a contest for schools in the fall (see below for more details!)

Race Event and Ticket Draw July 14 at Yonge and Dundas Square
Kicking off his five-city Race Edition food drive, Alex and his No. 18 Team EpiPen® race car will be joined by Food Allergy Canada in launching the Allergy-Friendly Food Drive Challenge. The event runs from 11am-2pm at downtown Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square.

Alex will speak about his racing season and about his experiences living with severe allergies. Fans will receive tips from the team on how to read a food label and how to help identify potential common allergens in everyday foods. Alex has never let his food allergies stop him from achieving his dreams, and he will talk about how he manages his food allergies and share stories from the road.

If you’re coming by to see Alex and his car, please bring along a non-perishable allergy-friendly food donation. The first 18 food donors will receive a ticket to the Honda Indy Pinty’s Series (valid in Toronto on July 16). Other fans will receive a signed Alex Tagliani t-shirt while supplies last.
