Most election campaigns will have several all-candidates meetings which provides a forum for individuals to ask questions in a “townhall” debate format. These are usually advertised in local papers or on candidate websites.

Ask well-framed questions in an all-candidates meeting to raise the public profile of our issues with candidates and voters. Public participants who choose to ask a question will have about 30-60 seconds to ask their question. Make note of the answers to your questions and if you are unclear on something, you can usually follow up with the candidate or a member of their campaign team after the meeting.

Sample question for all-candidate debates

My family is impacted by food allergy, a potentially life-threatening medical condition that affects over 3 million Canadians, their families and thousands in our own community. While our family is careful to avoid the allergen, this is a complex medical condition that requires constant vigilance, community support, and access to medical care when required. Food Allergy Canada and the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology are seeking federal leadership to take action on food allergy prevention, management, and care, to help keep Canadians living with food allergy stay safe. If elected, will you commit to support these efforts?
